Wonder how it works? HPWH

Curios about how Heat Pump Hot Waters Heaters work?

A heat pump water heater (HPWH) uses electricity to move heat from surrounding air into a storage tank, making it 2-3 times more efficient than standard electric models by transferring heat rather than generating it, significantly cutting energy costs and dehumidifying the space, often in a hybrid system with backup electric elements for high demand. These units work like a reverse refrigerator, pulling ambient heat, and are praised for major energy savings, though they have higher upfront costs and need ample surrounding air. They have several different operational modes including Hybrid, Heat Pump, or electrical only.

Heat Pump mode maximises you savings as it only utilizes the heat pump - recovery time may be a longer but this is the most cost savings for the average home.

Hybrid Mode saves while experiencing fast recovery. Hybrid is typically the manufacture setting and combines heat pump efficiency and fastest recovery rates for a busy full household.

Electric (only) Mode operates like a standard electric water heater and eliminates the air flow and sound from the heat pump system. This is the fastest recovery mode but the least efficient and will not provide any of the dehumidification benefits of the other two modes.
